Pseudogap in elemental plutonium

چکیده

Electronic correlations associated with incipient magnetism have long been recognized as an important factor in stabilizing the largest atomic volume $\ensuremath{\delta}$ phase of plutonium, yet their strength compared to those rare earths and neighboring actinides periodic table has largely remained a mystery. We show here using calorimetry measurements, together prior detailed measurements phonon dispersion, that $5f$ electrons reside pseudogapped state, accompanied by reductions various physical properties below characteristic temperature ${T}^{*}\ensuremath{\approx}100\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$. The small energy scale state implies plutonium are much closer threshold for localization magnetic order than suggested state-of-the-art electronic structure theory, revealing be arguably most strongly correlated elements.

Pseudogap in 1d revisited

Two decades ago, Sadovskii found an exact solution of a model describing a pseudogap in electron energy spectrum (first introduced by Lee, Rice and Anderson). The discovery of a pseudogap in high-Tc superconductors has revived the interest to his exact solution. I review the model with the emphasis on physical content, point out an error in the original Sadovskii’s solution and explain which pr...

Possible Pseudogap Phase in QCD

Thermal pion fluctuations, in principle, can completely disorder the phase of the quark condensate and thus restore chiral symmetry. If this happens before the quark condensate melts, strongly-interacting matter will be in the pseudogap state just above the chiral phase transition. The quark condensate does not vanish locally and quarks acquire constituent masses in the pseudogap phase, despite...

Pseudogap in Fe2VGa: NMR evidence

We report the results of a V and Ga nuclear magnetic resonance ~NMR! study of Fe2VGa at temperatures between 4 and 450 K. The presence of magnetic antisite defects is deduced from the NMR linewidth, which displays a Curie-law temperature dependence. The absence of associated NMR shifts indicates the material to be intrinsically nonmagnetic. At low temperatures the NMR spin-lattice relaxation ra...
